Women’s Senior Football (W League and Premier League)

We’re delighted to announce that Cushla Lichtwark and Pedro Garcias are the new coaches of the W League and Premier League teams respectively.

Cushla played an integral role in the team’s success on the field last year (W League Champions, Kelly Cup Champions and National Knockout Cup semi-finalists) and it’s great to see her further develop her skills in a coaching role.  She is also a passionate supporter for the development of the women’s game off the field; being a driving force in the senior leadership group, a member of the Women’s Advisory Group at Capital Football and has demonstrated unwavering loyalty and commitment to the players throughout the coach recruitment process.   Cush’s support team will include Phil Patterson, a player who has played the most games ever in Capital Football’s competitive leagues (a whopping 523!) and an experienced coach at junior, youth and senior levels.

Pedro is our current Director of Junior and Youth Coaching and a firm favourite with UHCF players and supporters alike.

A highly experienced coach (and still a very skillful player), Pedro has coached at Men’s Premier League, Capital Football Federation Talent Centre, Youth U17s and U19s, College Sport (boys and girls) and the junior girls’ development squad.  He has the perfect mix of junior, youth and senior coaching experience to manage the development of our Premier team players, whatever age and stage they are at.

Essential info:

Players need to be at least 15 years of age to play in these teams.

Training for both the W League and Premier League teams is on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6.00pm-7.30pm at Maidstone Park Turf.  These are competitive teams and a certain level of commitment is expected.  However, if you aren’t sure if long term you can commit to these training sessions, please do come along and have a chat to us about your availability.

In the meantime, if you have any questions please contact Gillian Patterson on 027 262 1767, email gillian@upperhuttcityfootball.org.nz

NEW FOR 2018 – Girls U18s

As well as the usual opportunities at junior level, this year we’re keen to enter a team in the new U18s girls’ only competition.  This is available for all girls turning 14-18 this year.

Games are held on Friday evenings throughout the region (likely to be turf /pitches with lights), with a maximum of one training session per week. This is a new opportunity for the 2018 season and is hoped to be a good introduction for young women to transition into senior women’s football. It’s also perfect for players who want to play for school and still remain in a club environment. Players (aged 15+) in this league will be able to play for the Women’s Premier League on Sundays on a rotational basis.

All players (turning 14-18 this year) are invited to please come along to an Open Training Session with Lorraine Bowring on Friday, 23rd February, 6.30pm at Maidstone Park Turf.   We are absolutely thrilled to have Lorraine back with the club.  The driving force behind the original Girls Development Squad, she set the benchmark for the development of female players in the Wellington region.

If you’re keen to come along to the session, please contact Gillian (027 262 1767, gillian@upperhuttcityfootball.org.nz) or Kirsty (021 890 066, kirsty@upperhuttcityfootball.org.nz)

2017 was a fantastic year for women’s and girls football at Upper Hutt City Football.  Let’s keep up the good work and build on this excellent foundation!
