Changes for the 2022 Season

Capital Football has introduced some changes for Mini Football from this season. Some of the key changes include:

  • The refocusing of U10 football to local leagues only (i.e. UHCF U9/U10 teams will play Hutt Valley only with no cross-Wellington ‘travel’ league for U10)
  • Expanding the scope for age-based dispensations by allowing more flexibility for clubs to allow kids play up or down ½ a grade based on a number of factors

A recommendation that clubs move away from formal grading sessions/trials when selecting team to longer assessment windows for players up to U12.

Which team

In light of the directive from Capital Football, based on recommendations from New Zealand Football, to move away from formal trials for Mini Football (U9-U12), we have taken the opportunity to review how we approach team selection for Mini Football teams for the 2022 season.

2022 preseason programme for Mini Football

The club will host junior preseason training sessions (open to all of those from U9-U12 who are registered/registering for the upcoming season) starting in early March. These sessions, which will be developed and designed by the club’s Director of Football and Junior and Youth Development Officers, and will include a mixture of skills sessions, small-sided games and larger-field games.

More details on the specific dates and times will be published on the club website in mid-February and shared by grade managers with those who are registered or who have played in that grade previously.

Dispensations

From 2022 Capital Football has expanded the scope for age-based dispensations by allowing more flexibility for clubs to allow kids play up or down ½ a grade based on a number of factors. If you are considering applying for a dispensation for your child, please contact your grade manager in the first instance.

Check out the Capital Football Junior Regulations.

Gear

We supply the playing strips (tops or shirts) each morning and collect them back in at the end of the morning.

Players will need shin pads, boots, shorts and socks, Official UHCF socks and shorts can be purchased via footballcentral.co.nz.

Tournaments

There are a few tournaments throughout the season where we put forward teams from each grade. Tournaments are generally played on Sundays during the season and maybe a Saturday or Sunday when the season ends. Ask your coach or grade manager for more info.

Parent coaches

We have a number of parents and whanau volunteer each season to act as coaches or managers to look after a team throughout the season – and we’re always to keen to find some more. The role is far more about children than football. There’s a ready-made toolkit to work with and we always love coaches who are keen to let the kids’ imagination go crazy. Please let your grade manager know if you’re keen.

Cancellations

Cancellations will be made by Capital Football not later than first thing Saturday morning. You can always check the latest on the Capital Football website or Facebook for latest updates.

Latest news

Each grade has a parent Facebook group that is managed by the grade manager.  Also stay up to date with the latest on our club Facebook page.
