Women’s Central League – Week 2 Report

  • Post category:Women

The last 2 weeks has seen us have one of our best starts to a Central League season for a number of years. Two wins from two games couldn’t be better and demonstrates all the hard work the players have put in over the last few months.

Our opening game saw us beat newly promoted Brooklyn 8-0. The game started well, with four goals to Ellen Stirling in the opening half.  Adding to the tally were Bex Jefferies, Emma Main, Lucy Sneddon and Kennedy Bryant. Some of the football played was great and it was very pleasing to see how much the players enjoyed the game.

Player of the day went to Ellen for the four well taken goals with Katie Barrott being awarded 2 points and Molly McPharlane 1 point.

Game 2 saw us face Wgtn Utd who finished in the top 3 last year. This was a game we knew would be tough but also one we believed we could take points from. Both teams tried to play football in what was trying conditions at an extremely windy Wakefield park. Into the halftime break locked at nil all, the 2nd half went in our favour with a well taken goal from Kennedy Bryant.

With 10 minutes still to go the team battled on in the conditions and hung on to a 1-0 win. Player of the day went to Cushla Lichtwark in goal, who at times definitely kept us in the game. 2 points went to Bria Sargent who led from the middle and worked hard throughout the entire game and 1 point to Lucy at the back.

Thanks to all our supporters who have been great cheering us on from the sidelines and to the team photographer Rosa, who provides us with quality photos every week.
