Upper Hutt City Football dominated the local Upper Hutt Sports Awards on 1 May 2013.  All of our nominees would like to thank our passionate committee and volunteers for their support and thoughtful citations.  Also to congratulate the winners of all categories, acknowledge their dedication, individual and team achievement within their chosen sporting fields which was significant, with National and International participation honours for many – an attribute to Upper Hutt City and our local community whom without all acknowledged they could not achieved what they have without.

Upper Hutt City Football Men’s and Women’s 1st Team were nominated as the top 2 finalists with our Men’s 1st Team awarded with the accolade of Upper Hutt Sports Team of the Year.  Pedro Garcias collected the award on behalf of the men’s 1st team and stated that he was very proud of the men’s achievements in 2012 and ongoing results into 2013.  Success that would not have been possible without the fantastic support from our football community and determination from the players.

In an extremely tough category, Wayne Rooker was also recognised as a finalist for the Sportsman of the Year.  Pedro Garcias and Lorraine Bowring were both nominated in the Coach of the Year category.

A passionate and committed Phil Gorman was rewarded with Administrator of the Year and was quick to thank those in the committee and club that have supported Club incentives and humbled by the community spirit we hold.  Phil thanked his wife, Mel for putting up with his passion and his parents, Tony and Sue, for making the decision to move to the Club 25 years ago, one of which he is extremely proud to be a part of.

Mary Fisher, Paralympic Gold Medal Winner received a standing ovation for Sportswoman of the Year from all that attended and mentioned how football had also played a part in her formative years so was pleased to see Upper Hutt City Football achieving so much.

All in all, a great night and proud to be part of such a talented, diverse, passionate and motivated local sporting community.
