It’s a big game for our Men’s first team this weekend, as we meet Lower Hutt at Fraser Park in the annual “Sue Watson Wineglass Challenge.”
The Cup recognises the strong links between the two Clubs over more than 20 years, and Sue had many happy memories with both, from U19 tournaments & social getaways, horsey nights, karaoke evenings to weekend trips away and even an overseas tour.
These links involve many players and coaches who have represented both clubs over many years.
Many people will remember Sue as a fun-loving, generous woman who made many friends within the footballing community, and it will be an ideal time to reflect on our friendships.
When Sue left UHC she was presented with a wineglass from ‘the girls’ so it seemed appropriate to name the cup so.
The Wineglass Challenge Cup is challenged for once a year at the holder’s first home League game against the Challenger. If for example the challenger wins that game then the next game for the Cup is that clubs home game the following year. The Cup cannot be played for more than once a year. In the event of a draw the holder retains the Cup.
