The winter season is over and it’s time to turn our attention to the Girls’ Only Summer Football Leagues. Feedback from the girls who took part last year was really positive, loads of fun, new skills learnt and new footballing friends made.
We’re aiming to enter teams in the U8 (7th/8th grade), U10 (9th/10th grade), U12 (11th/12th grade) and U14s (13th/14th grade) competitions and would love to hear from you if you’re interested in playing girls’ only football over the summer.
Tell your friends too! It’s absolutely fine to play summer league for us one club and return to their original club for the winter season. Girls new to the game are also very welcome.
Sunday 1st November 2015 – Sunday 6th December 2015
Sunday 14th February 2016 – Sunday 20th March 2016
U8, U10 – Memorial Turf, Petone
U12, U14 – Te Whaea Turf, Mount Cook
$60 per player
It will be up to the coach, parents and players of each team to decide whether or not there is mid-week training. Last year, some of the teams simply fit in a session before the game on a Sunday morning, although we may try to fit in some sessions before the season starts so the girls can get to know each other.
How to register:
For now, simply email Gillian Patterson, firstname.lastname@example.org with your child’s name, date of birth and contact phone number.
Registrations close Friday 9 October to give us time to sort the girls into teams, confirm coaches and managers and get kit organised. Once we have confirmed enough interest to register the teams with Capital Football, we will send you official online registration form and payment details.
*** Coaches and managers ***
Teams of course need coaches and managers. Without them, there is no team! So if you’re keen, please also contact Gillian for more info.
Last year’s U17’s competition has become U18s this year, open to girls aged 14-18. You must be at least 14 to play in this competition. This does mean that some 14 year old girls will have the choice of playing U14s or U18s. If you’re not sure which one is best suited for you, please let us know.
Saturday 17th October 2015 – Saturday 5th December 2015
Te Whaea Turf, Mount Cook
$50 per person
How to register:
Please email Christine Williams, email@example.com to register your interest. We’ll send you an official online registration form once we have confirmed enough numbers to enter a team.
We are delighted to announce that Cameron Porteous, who was part of the very successful senior womens’ coaching team for the winter season, is confirmed as coach for the U18’s team.
We are however on the lookout for a manager, so if anyone is keen, please let Christine know.
Looking a little further ahead…
Many of the wonderful volunteers in our junior girls’ environment are moving through to senior football. Our Girls Development Programme has set the standard for girls’ football in the Wellington region and we’re really keen to make sure this continues. But we do need more volunteers to join us on the Women’s and Girls’ Group and in particular, to represent the girls’ interests on the Junior Committee.
The summer football season is the perfect time to learn the ropes in preparation for the winter season. So if you’d like to be involved in helping us drive the growth and development of the girls’ game at Upper Hutt City Football, please give Gillian a call on 027 262 1767.
Here’s to a successful season of Girls Summer Football.
