Double win for our women

  • Post category:Women

Our first Orange Day at our new Maidstone Park home on Saturday was extended to an Orange Weekend on Sunday and it certainly added a bit of zest to our women’s games.

The 2nd team got the day off to a winning start with a 2-0 win over top of the table Porirua ladies. Goals for Jo and Amanda, staunch defence and well deserved points to Talia for the second week in a row for doing all that’s asked of her.  Coach Manu was delighted with the performance saying it was great to see the girls transferring what’s happening at training and bringing it to game day.  Combination passes from our mid and forwards managed to find the gaps whilst Porirua did not back off applying the pressure at both ends of the field.

A good crowd, in excellent spirits stayed on from that game to watch the first team which followed straight after. And they weren’t disappointed.   The local derby against Lower Hutt could have been a testy affair, but instead it demonstrated the hard work and positive attitude of our women, young and not so young!

Captain Bria scored early and quality football continued for the rest of the game with a late goal for Mel to make it a 2-0 win. Through great mentorship from our senior ladies the team are starting to reap the rewards for the best in all our players and given the talent in the side there is more to come yet.

A huge welcome to Cushla and birthday wishes to Olivia.  Enjoy the win, thoroughly deserved!
